Tumour markers
Tumour markers may be divided into:
- monoclonal antibodies against carbohydrate or glycoprotein tumour antigens
- tumour antigens
- enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, neurone specific enolase)
- hormones (e.g. calcitonin, ADH)
It should be noted that tumour markers usually have a low specificity
